Network Engineer provides technical knowledge and leadership from beginning to end for all new and
current projects aligned with department efforts. This directly impacts how the customer allocates
resources for network implementations related to performance, security, and system
administration. The network engineer will and/or assist with generating technical documentation,
technical solutions, and designs for network projects; will provide engineering assistance during
outages and network issues.
Overall responsible for root cause analysis related to any network issues or degradation experienced.
Network performance is to be monitored, reported, and documented ensuring all corrective actions/
guidelines are available for end user; review, edit, or make recommendations on network maintenance
Training is to be provided for all technical personnel and/or end users, in addition to resolved network
Essential Job Functions
• Engineer, design, install, configure, and optimize IT network systems.
• Implement local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other
data networks.
• Provide system and engineering support for documented and approved projects and tasks, while
ensuring all engineered solutions follow DISA STIGs and DoD standards
• Develop and maintain documentation including Standard Operating Procedures and System
Architecture Guides and Diagrams adhering to organizational templates, policies, and DoD standards.
• Perform root cause analysis of critical outage and incidents, engineer permanent solutions, and
coordinate implementation.
• Provide management proposed configurations, optimizations, and system improvement plans.
• Work closely with the customer to establish and meet project milestones and deliverables; ensure all
solutions meet documented customer requirements and are within project scope.
• Follow all customer Change Management and Engineering Review processes; ensure changes are
completed according to the project and/or release manager schedule.
• Performance Standard: All tasks are reviewed and completed by the agreed upon completion date
and in accordance with customer policies and procedures.
• Create training materials to maintain continuity.
• Provide technical guidance during hardware/software purchasing.
• Perform peer network configuration review to ensure quality control on implementations.
• Active Secret Security Clearance, at minimum.
• Valid IAT Level II Certification, Security + CE.
• CCNP, Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification.
• 6-8 years of technical experience in LAN/WAN configuration.
• Experience/competence in Cisco routing/switching, Juniper Enterprise routing/switching, Cisco
Identity Services Engine (ISE), Microsoft Visio, and Solar Winds network management tools.
Other Skills/Abilities
• Cisco Unified Collaboration programming knowledge
• Cisco Security Suite programming knowledge
• Proficient in Hardware/Software Diagnostics
